Ha Giang Loop
The iconic highland route
North Vietnam is one of Asia’s most breathtaking motorcycling regions: dramatic limestone mountains, endless rice terraces, deep valleys, diverse ethnic cultures and some of the most iconic motorcycle routes in the world. Exploring the region on a motorcycle means experiencing Vietnam with all your senses – more immersive, raw and authentic than any other form of travel.
In the northern highlands, where motorcycles and scooters are the primary way of getting around, it becomes instantly clear: a North Vietnam motorcycle tour is not just a way to get around – it’s a cultural journey. The winding mountain roads are some of the finest in all of Asia. The high passes around Ha Giang, Sapa, and the Chinese border are legendary, making this region a paradise for riders who love technical terrain and unforgettable scenery. With Classic Bike Adventure’s Good Morning Vietnam tour, you’ll experience North Vietnam the way only true insiders can. Our local partners know the best routes, hidden highlights and provide daily updates on road and weather conditions. At the same time, they open the door to authentic encounters with the region’s ethnic minorities. A dedicated support vehicle with mechanic ensures safety and comfort throughout the journey – the perfect combination of deep adventure, cultural immersion and professional organisation.
The climate in North Vietnam differs significantly from the rest of the country. In the highlands, weather can change within hours: mist, wind, cooler temperatures and occasional showers are common. Spring (March–April) and autumn (September–November) offer the most beautiful conditions, with clear skies, comfortable riding temperatures and golden rice terraces glowing across the landscape.
During the rainy season (July–September), heavy rainfall can make mountain roads slippery, which is why these months are not ideal for motorcycle touring. In winter, it can even snow around Sapa – a reminder of how unique and unpredictable the highland climate can be.
Check if you require an E-Visa for Vietnam. Visa regulations depend on your nationality. If you need assistance with the application to join our North Vietnam tour, we are more than happy to provide additional information on the process.
Police checks are common along the famous Ha Giang Loop, so having easy access to your International Driving Permit and the national license is highly recommended.
