Maharajas, Desert Bliss & Off the Beaten Track Adventures on a Royal Enfied Motorcycle

Embark on a majestic journey through Rajasthan, the “Land of Kings”. This motorcycle adventure tour offers more than just the thrill of the ride; it’s an immersion into the heart of India’s vibrant history and traditions. Rajasthan, known for its vivid colors and serene desert vistas with sand dunes and camel herds, also unfolds lush green valleys, tranquil lakes, and rugged mountains. This land, echoing tales of Rajput warriors, grand Maharajahs, and Mughal rulers, invites you to delve into a world where ancient traditions and a rich heritage welcome our riders.

The route first leads into the wild landscapes around Sariska and on to the famous Ranthambore National Park, where a jeep safari in search of Bengal tigers awaits us. From there, the route continues via historic small towns and remote country roads to Bundi and Bijapur to the romantic lake city of Udaipur. Along the winding roads of the Aravalli Mountains, we discover ancient temples, small villages and rural India far away from classic tourist routes.

Another highlight of this India motorcycle tour is the ride through the Thar Desert to Jaisalmer. Between sand dunes, camels and old caravan routes, we spend a night in an atmospheric desert camp in the middle of the Rajasthan Desert – an unforgettable experience under the starry sky of India. From there, the journey continues through the endless desert landscapes of Rajasthan back towards Shekhawati and Mandawa.

At the end of the tour, another very special cultural highlight awaits us with Mandawa. We will spend the night there in a former royal palace and experience the unique charm of the historic Haveli region of Shekhawati. In general, this Rajasthan motorcycle tour is characterized by extraordinary accommodations: Many overnight stays take place in carefully restored heritage hotels, historic palaces and stylish boutique hotels, which give the trip a very special atmosphere and make Rajasthan an experience away from the motorcycle.

This motorcycle tour through Rajasthan combines desert, safari, culture, history and authentic India into an intense adventure. From tiger reserves to maharajah palaces to lonely desert roads, every day of riding offers new impressions and makes this tour one of the most fascinating motorcycle tours in India.

Daily Itinerary

Welcome to Rajasthan – “Land of Kings”
Day 1

Welcome to Rajasthan – “Land of Kings”

Your Royal Enfield motorcycle tour in India begins upon arrival at Delhi airport in the early morning hours. From here, a private transfer takes you to Haryana (approx. 2 hours), where your journey officially starts. We recommend arriving by 3am, as many international flights land during this time. The scheduled group transfer departs at 6am, allowing sufficient time for immigration and baggage collection, which can take up to three hours. Should you arrive later, we can easily organize an individual transfer for you.

Settle into India at your own pace as you leave Delhi’s dynamic atmosphere behind and head into the calmer countryside. The transition from bustling city streets to open farmland offers a first glimpse of the diverse landscapes you’ll encounter on this Rajasthan motorcycle tour. You’ll spend the night at a welcoming and tranquil homestay—an ideal setting to relax, recover from your journey, and ease into the rhythm of travel in India before the ride begins.

Distance covered: approx. 80 km (2 hrs by taxi)

Starting our Royal Enfield Ride
Day 2

Starting our Royal Enfield Ride

Today the journey truly begins as you set off on your first ride, leaving the everyday behind and heading straight into Rajasthan’s open countryside. The traffic gradually fades, giving way to quiet backroads, small villages, and ever-changing rural scenery—an ideal introduction to riding in India. As the landscape becomes more rugged and untamed, you make your way toward the renowned Sariska Tiger Reserve. Once the private hunting grounds of the Maharajas of Alwar, this protected area has evolved into one of India’s notable conservation success stories.

Declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1958 and later designated a Tiger Reserve in 1978, it was the first in the country to successfully relocate tigers. Surrounded by rocky hills, dense forest, and scattered ancient ruins, the area offers a striking blend of wilderness and history. It’s a memorable first riding day—setting the tone for the adventure ahead through Rajasthan.

Distance covered: approx. 190 km

Sariska Tiger Reserve, to Ranthambhore National Park via Bhangarh Fort
Day 3

Sariska Tiger Reserve, to Ranthambhore National Park via Bhangarh Fort

The ride continues deeper into Rajasthan’s wild landscapes, where forested stretches gradually open into rural heartlands and quiet village roads. This stage offers a more immersive feel for life beyond the cities, as you pass through small settlements and witness the rhythm of everyday India—raw, simple, and authentic. Along the way, you stop at the atmospheric Bhangarh Fort, one of the region’s most intriguing historical sites, known as much for its legends as for its striking ruins.

After exploring the area, the journey carries on toward Ranthambore National Park, one of India’s most famous wildlife reserves. As the day unfolds, anticipation begins to build for the upcoming safari experience the following morning. With every kilometre, you draw closer to the untamed wilderness of Ranthambore, where the next chapter of your Rajasthan motorcycle adventure awaits.

Distance covered: approx. 220 km

Ranthambhore Safari and ride to the Oasis Architecture of Bundi
Day 4

Ranthambhore Safari and ride to the Oasis Architecture of Bundi

The day begins early in the untamed wilderness of Ranthambore, one of India’s most renowned wildlife reserves. Setting out in the early morning for a jungle safari, you venture deep into the forest as it slowly comes to life. With a bit of luck, you may spot Bengal tigers, hyenas, sloth bears, crocodiles, and a wide range of birdlife moving through this rich and varied habitat. Once the exclusive hunting grounds of maharajas, Ranthambore was historically shaped with lakes and watering holes to attract wildlife. Today, it stands as a leading example of conservation in India—an environment where nature has reclaimed its space in impressive fashion. After returning for breakfast, the journey continues on two wheels. Leaving the jungle behind, you ride along quiet, winding country roads toward Bundi, a lesser-known highlight of any Rajasthan motorcycle tour.

The route offers relaxed riding through rural landscapes, with a sense of calm replacing the intensity of the jungle. Often referred to as the ‘Blue City’ of eastern Rajasthan, Bundi reveals a more intimate and atmospheric side of India. Narrow lanes, ornate havelis, stepwells, and faded murals create a setting rich in character, while the imposing Bundi Fort rises above the town like a silent guardian of its past. By evening, you settle into a charming heritage-style accommodation beneath the watchful presence of the fort—an atmospheric setting to unwind and soak in the timeless spirit of this captivating town.

Distance covered: approx. 150 km

Bundi to the serene charm of Bijaipur Castle
Day 5

Bundi to the serene charm of Bijaipur Castle

Today’s ride leads you deeper into a quieter corner of India, where Rajasthan gradually blends into the landscapes of Madhya Pradesh. The route winds through a narrow valley framed by the ancient Aravalli Range, offering a scenic and relaxed riding day through a region rarely explored by most travellers. As the terrain unfolds, you pass through remote villages and open countryside, far removed from the usual tourist routes—an authentic stretch that highlights the diversity of Rajasthan.

By afternoon, you reach a peaceful rural setting, where a historic residence awaits. Dating back to the 16th century, this former fortified home has been carefully restored and remains in the hands of the local royal family, offering a unique glimpse into traditional Rajput life. This evening is defined by a warm and personal atmosphere, where heritage, simplicity, and genuine hospitality come together—less like a hotel stay, and more like being welcomed into a private home.

Distance covered: approx. 150 km

The Pride of Rajasthan & the Spirit of Ranakpur
Day 6

The Pride of Rajasthan & the Spirit of Ranakpur

Rising high above the surrounding plains, the legendary Chittorgarh Fort stands as one of the most remarkable forts in India—widely known as the “Pride of Rajasthan.” Set atop a 180-meter-high hill and spread across an impressive 700 acres, this vast complex reflects centuries of history, resilience, and Rajput valour. Believed to date back to the 7th century under Mauryan rule, it was later expanded by the rulers of Mewar, leaving behind a rich architectural and cultural legacy.

Exploring Chittorgarh offers a powerful insight into Rajasthan’s past, where tales of bravery and sacrifice are deeply woven into the landscape—making it a standout highlight of any motorcycle journey through the region. After taking in this historic setting, the ride continues toward Ranakpur, where the atmosphere shifts to a more tranquil and spiritual tone. Surrounded by rolling hills and quiet countryside, the day ends in the regal charm of a castle hotel, offering comfort, character, and a chance to unwind after a rewarding day on the road.

Distance covered: approx. 200 km

The From Sacred Temples to the Blue City – Hello Jodhpur!
Day 7

The From Sacred Temples to the Blue City – Hello Jodhpur!

After breakfast, the ride continues toward Jodhpur, as the landscape gradually shifts from gentle countryside to the more rugged, arid terrain of western Rajasthan. Before the desert fully takes over, you pass through Pali, one of the region’s oldest towns, known for its long-standing spiritual and cultural heritage. Along the way, you visit the remarkable Ranakpur Jain Temple, famous for its intricate marble architecture and beautifully carved pillars. This peaceful stop offers a striking contrast to the ride—an insight into the craftsmanship and devotion that define this part of India.

Continuing onward, the road leads you into the iconic “Blue City” of Jodhpur. Founded in 1459, the city is renowned for its sea of indigo-coloured houses and strong royal identity. Dominating the skyline is the impressive Mehrangarh Fort, a UNESCO-recognized landmark that rises dramatically above the old town. A visit to the fort rewards you with sweeping views over the blue maze of the city below. As evening sets in, you enjoy a relaxed dinner before settling into a comfortable heritage-style hotel, reflecting the timeless character of Jodhpur.

Distance covered: approx. 190 km

Into the Thar Desert – Ride to the Golden City
Day 8

Into the Thar Desert – Ride to the Golden City

Back on the bikes, the journey continues westward into the vast openness of the Thar Desert. This is where Rajasthan reveals a more raw and elemental side—long, empty stretches of road, dry landscapes, and a sense of space that defines desert riding in India. As the kilometres pass, the scenery becomes increasingly stark and atmospheric, offering a unique riding experience shaped by wind, sand, and silence. This stage of the route captures the true spirit of a Rajasthan motorcycle adventure—remote, immersive, and unforgettable.

Rising from the desert like a mirage, Jaisalmer appears on the horizon in warm shades of gold. Known as the “Golden City,” it is famed for its honey-coloured sandstone architecture and deep-rooted Rajput heritage. With its desert setting, historic charm, and timeless atmosphere, Jaisalmer marks a striking contrast to the landscapes of previous days.

Distance covered: approx. 280 km

Golden Dunes & Desert Nights
Day 9

Golden Dunes & Desert Nights

After the thrill of the road, today invites you to slow down and experience the desert from a different perspective. A short and easy ride takes you out into the rolling sand dunes of the Thar Desert. Here, the focus shifts from riding to simply taking it all in. Camels move steadily across the golden sands, echoing the ancient trade routes that once passed through this region, offering a timeless glimpse into desert life. As evening approaches, the desert reveals its most captivating side. Gather around a glowing campfire, enjoy a relaxed dinner, and take in the vast silence of the surroundings. Under a sky filled with countless stars, far from any city lights, the atmosphere becomes truly unforgettable.

Distance covered: approx. 60 km

From Desert Silence to the Bustle of Bikaner
Day 10

From Desert Silence to the Bustle of Bikaner

Leaving behind the stillness of the Thar Desert, today’s ride takes you north toward Bikaner, tracing remote routes not far from the Pakistan border. The landscape remains open and expansive, yet gradually shifts as signs of city life begin to reappear along the way. As you approach Bikaner, the calm of the desert gives way to a lively urban atmosphere. Busy streets, colorful bazaars, and the constant movement of rickshaws create a vibrant contrast to the solitude of the previous days. By evening, you settle into a comfortable palace hotel, where traditional architecture and modern comfort come together. After a satisfying dinner, the day winds down with a well-earned rest—recharged and ready for the next stage of your adventure.

Distance covered: approx. 340 km

Bikaner to Mandawa via Tal Chhapar Black Buck Sanctuary
Day 11

Bikaner to Mandawa via Tal Chhapar Black Buck Sanctuary

Riding out of Bikaner, the route gradually leaves behind the harsher desert edges and opens into wide plains scattered with khejri trees, grazing livestock, and quiet villages that seem untouched by time. The changing scenery makes for a relaxed and enjoyable riding day, offering a different perspective on Rajasthan’s diverse landscapes. A highlight along the way is the stretch through Tal Chhapar Blackbuck Sanctuary, where open grasslands replace the desert terrain. With a bit of luck, you may spot elegant blackbucks grazing or sprinting across the plains—adding a unique wildlife encounter to the day’s ride.

Continuing onward, you arrive in the colourful town of Mandawa, known for its vibrant streets and richly painted havelis. The atmosphere feels lively yet intimate, with traditional architecture and local life blending seamlessly. In the evening, you settle into the iconic Mandawa Castle. Surrounded by ornate details and historic grandeur, this remarkable setting offers a fitting end to the day—an authentic glimpse into Rajasthan’s regal past combined with a memorable overnight stay.

Distance covered: approx. 240 km

Farewell Ride of the Royal Enfield Rajasthan Tour
Day 12

Farewell Ride of the Royal Enfield Rajasthan Tour

The final day in the saddle has arrived—one last ride to take it all in. Leaving the Shekhawati region behind, you head back toward the outskirts of Delhi, enjoying the changing scenery as rural roads gradually give way to the edge of the capital. This closing stretch offers time to reflect on the journey—twelve days of diverse landscapes, from desert plains and wildlife reserves to historic towns and vibrant cities. It’s a final opportunity to absorb the sights, sounds, and rhythm of riding through Rajasthan. Arriving at your base on the outskirts of Delhi, the pace slows once more. In the evening, we come together for a memorable farewell dinner—sharing stories, laughter, and the bonds forged on the road.

Distance covered: approx. 180 km

Transfer to Delhi – Goodbye Rajasthan
Day 13

Transfer to Delhi – Goodbye Rajasthan

It’s never easy to say goodbye—and today brings one of those bittersweet moments. After the journey across Rajasthan’s diverse landscapes, your adventure concludes with a final transfer back to Delhi, where you prepare for your onward flight or next destination. What began as a motorcycle journey has grown into something far more meaningful—an experience shaped by the roads you’ve ridden, the places you’ve discovered, and the people you’ve met along the way. As you depart, you take with you not just memories of Rajasthan, but the lasting spirit of the ride—one that stays with you long after the journey has come to an end.

Golden Himalaya, North India – Pure Adventure

October 2024 This 14-day journey amazed even the most seasoned riders in the group. With breathtaking landscapes, thrilling roads, and rich cultural discoveries, it was an unforgettable adventure. Our group consisted of four lovely couples, familiar faces from past tours who brought with them a warm and harmonious atmosphere throughout the journey.

Questions & Answers

Indian standard time is 5.5 hours ahead of GMT.

A travel day normally begins at 8 am with breakfast. Around 9 am, after a short briefing by the road captain, it’s time for the day’s riding, the mileage of which can vary quite a bit. Plenty of time will be available for lunch and coffee breaks, of course. Depending on the day’s mileage, we’ll reach the destination hotel between 3 and 4 pm.
Since our tours vary considerably, we may also hit the road at 8 am on high-mileage days – which is also nice, because then we have the whole day ahead of us.

You are not allowed to bring Indian currency into the country or take it out. You may bring the equivalent of up to US$ 5,000 in foreign currency into the country without prior notice. We recommend bringing euros in €50 and €100 notes. Please make a note of the daily exchange rate to avoid getting a bad rate at the airport. American Express Traveler’s Cheques are no longer in common use and will cause unnecessary hassles. Credit cards (Maestro, Visa and MasterCard) with PINs can be used for cash advances from ATMs in many towns.
You will need the equivalent of around €100 to €150 for drinks, lunch and tips per week.

Western food is generally not available, so we’ll be having simple, often vegetarian meals as well as regional specialties throughout the tour. Hearty breakfasts will not always be available. We can promise you a wide range of cuisine, with a special emphasis on local specialties. In general, a lot of curry is served in India, and little meat – chicken being the most common non-vegetarian food – but plenty of vegetables, legumes and rice. Indian cuisine is generally well-spiced, easily digestible and not overly hot. Vegetarians will have no problems in India.
Indian beer is not always up to international standards. The most common brands are Kingfisher, Castle and San Miguel. The local Chang beer is quite effective but requires a bit of getting used to. Wine – when it’s available – is even more of an acquired taste than Chang. Mineral water and beverages such as Coca Cola can be purchased anywhere and must be carried individually.

Indians drive on the left. The flexible and generally considerate driving style of the locals makes it easy to adjust to riding on the “wrong side” and coping with traffic conditions that initially seem chaotic. The behavior of pedestrians and cyclists, and the frequent presence of animals on the road call for considerably more attention, however. Extreme caution is required around children.
Further information on traffic and riding can be found here and here.

Depending on the tour, we provide several Royal Enfield models.

Royal Enfield Bullet 500 (classic model)

Single-cylinder four-stroke, 499 cc, 16 kW (28 bhp) at 4,600 rpm, 178 kg, 80 cm seat height, max speed approx. 123 kph. The Bullet is the classic old-school Royal Enfield, loved for its timeless design and relaxed riding character.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 411

Single-cylinder, 411 cc, approx. 24.3 bhp, 199 kg, 800 mm seat height. The Himalayan 411 is a proven adventure motorcycle, comfortable, robust, and well suited for rough roads and high-altitude touring.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 (new generation)

Single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, 452 cc, approx. 40 bhp, 196 kg, 825 mm seat height (adjustable). This is the newest Himalayan model, offering more power, improved suspension, and modern technology.

Our motorcycles are well maintained and regularly serviced. As touring bikes, some may show minor cosmetic signs of adventure, but technically they are in excellent condition and perfectly suited for our tours.

Average riding speeds on tour are typically 40–60 kph, depending on road conditions, terrain, and traffic.

Participants are required to sign an agreement document stating that in the event of damage to the motorcycle, costs of up to EUR 500 may be charged. This amount corresponds to the deductible of our partial comprehensive insurance.

On certain tours, we also offer the option to upgrade to fully comprehensive insurance. In this case, participants can pay EUR 100 before the start of the tour, and we will cover any additional damage costs beyond that amount.

European SIM cards now work almost everywhere in India. You’ll need patience if you want a local SIM card, as the registration takes a minimum of three days, and in some regions it is not possible at all.

Your baggage will be carried by the support vehicle. Please don’t pack too much – remember: less is more. From time to time, we’ll have to carry our baggage over short distances to the hotel. Baggage is not insured, so please be sure to purchase your own baggage insurance for the trip if necessary. Your personal items for the day are best kept in the saddlebags or your daypack. Tank bags – including magnetic ones – can be used on the Enfields, but we don’t provide them.

Simple street maps are often available locally. The best road maps are available from the German publishers Reise Know How and Nelles. These are only available in specialized bookstores or online.

All riders must have a valid motorcycle driving license issued in their home country. An international driving license is also required. Be sure to contact the relevant authorities in your home country well in advance for more information on obtaining an international driving license.

Up to 200 cigarettes and 2 liters of alcohol may be imported duty-free. All international cigarette and spirits brands are available in India. Customs checks of arriving tourists have become considerably less strict in recent years.

You will need your passport, national driving license, international driving license and flight ticket. Please be sure to make photocopies of all of your important travel documents and carry them separately. They can be invaluable in an emergency.

Depending on the tour, we ride Royal Enfield Bullet 500 motorcycles (manufactured between 2014 and 2017) as well as the Royal Enfield Himalayan 411 and the new Himalayan 450.

The Royal Enfield Bullet 500 is the classic model and features electric starters, 5-speed gearboxes with the gearshift on the left, front disc brakes, roomy and rugged leather saddlebags, crash bars, 19” tires, and twin horns.

The Royal Enfield Himalayan 411 and Himalayan 450 are modern adventure motorcycles, designed for long-distance touring and rough roads. They offer comfortable ergonomics, long-travel suspension, and strong single-cylinder engines, making them well suited for the diverse road conditions encountered on our tours.

Our European tour guides are skilled motorcyclists and inveterate travelers who love Nepal. They’re resilient in the face of stress and know the history and culture of the regions they cover. Our Indian and Nepali mechanics are experienced Enfield specialists who all speak English and are happy to help with any technical problem, great or small.

A stand-in rider is always available. More information on our travel concept is available here.

Groups generally consist of 8 to 14 riders and 2 to 6 passengers. The minimum number of participants is 6 riders.

Yes, all passengers have a guaranteed seat. In bad weather or challenging riding conditions, they can switch to the support vehicle at any time – and back to the bike when conditions improve.

Riding two-up is almost always possible. In difficult terrain or on rough tracks, every passenger has a guaranteed seat in the support vehicle to keep things relaxed for both rider and pillion.

We always recommend that you take out travel insurance to cover costs incurred if you need to cancel the trip due to illness or other reasons. When shopping for travel health insurance, make sure the policy covers the potentially high cost of medical evacuation to your home country. Both forms of insurance can save you a lot of money in an emergency and we recommend them unreservedly. In many countries, your national motoring organization can provide the coverage you need.

Generally, vaccination against hepatitis A and B, or a booster shot, is recommended. In addition to personal medications, remedies for stomach problems, diarrhea, insect bites, fever, and colds are advisable. Some doctors recommend malaria prophylaxis for tropical regions such as Goa or southern Thailand. None of our tour participants have ever suffered from malaria. During our peak season, malaria is unlikely. Please consult your doctor or a tropical medicine institute regarding whether prophylaxis or acute treatment in case of infection is more appropriate. This certainly also applies to the vaccinations recommended above. We have had good experiences with the Dukoral oral vaccine, which significantly reduces the risk of cholera and amoebic diseases.

Our onboard first-aid kit is already a treasure trove for emergencies. We’re prepared for (almost) every ailment. For other eventualities, we’ll organize everything necessary conscientiously and quickly with professional efficiency. However, good health and general fitness are essential for every tour participant. It’s crucial that you take care of this in advance so you don’t end up receiving all the necessary vaccinations at once!

In the event of current threats from epidemics or the plague, we will react and inform you immediately. This hasn’t happened in the last ten years, though.

You will definitely want to bring your riding suit with protectors and a helmet. You will also need motorcycle boots or lighter riding shoes and gloves. While your gear should be breathable in hot climates, you need to be ready for anything at high altitudes and in the Himalayas. We recommend winter gloves, warm socks, liners for jackets and trousers, a scarf and face protection. Rain gear is a good idea if your riding suit is not waterproof.
Please note that we do not hire out clothing. We believe that your own riding gear will fit best and thus give you the best protection. If you forget anything, we’ll find a solution, however. We often have spare gear with us, or we can point you in the direction of a shop.

Visitors to India need a tourist visa, which you must obtain in advance.
Visas are not issued on arrival.
Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the period of your stay.
The e-Tourist Visa costs around 20 to 80 euros and you can apply for it online.
Important note: The terms for the e-Tourist Visa can be found here: https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/tvoa.html
The visa application itself can be found here: https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/info1.jsp
